How to become a tester
Thank you for helping. It takes a few minutes, but please follow the steps in order. Step 1 must be fully done before step 2 works.
- You need an Android phone.
- Use the same Google account in every step. It must be the account that the Play Store on your phone uses.
- To find it: open the Play Store and tap your profile picture in the top right corner. That email address is the right one.
Join the Google group
Open the link and tap Join group. Check that it says you are a member.
https://groups.google.com/g/pocketssh-testersStep 2 only works after step 1 is done. Google Play has to notice that you joined the group, and that can take from a few minutes to a couple of hours.
If step 2 shows an error, or Play says the app cannot be found, it is almost always just the wait. Wait and try step 2 again later. You are not doing anything wrong.
Join the test
Open the link and tap Become a tester. If it says you are already a tester, that is fine.
https://play.google.com/apps/testing/dk.pocketsshInstall the app
Open the link on your phone and tap Install.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.pocketsshKeep the app for 14 days
- Keep the app installed for 14 days in a row.
- Stay in the Google group and in the test. If you leave, the 14 days start over.
- Please open the app now and then. It helps a lot.
Check: open Settings, About. Under the version number it should say "Test version from Google Play, without the lock".
If it does not work
- Play says the app cannot be found. Wait a while and try step 2 again. See the box about patience.
- Wrong account. If you have more than one Google account, tap your profile picture in the Play Store and switch to the account you used in step 1.
- The link opens with another account. Open step 1 and 2 in Chrome, where you are signed in with the right account. It also works from a computer.
- The link does not work after copying it. Some apps add characters like < > [ ] ( ) or extra text. Use the Copy link button on this page, or type the address exactly as shown.
- No install button. Close the Play Store completely and open the link in step 3 again.
Still stuck? Send Jesper the exact error message and the email address you used in step 1.
